English Language contest (Olimpiad)
"All-Russia English Language contest (Olimpiad) is in full swing. On Saturday, November 12, 2016, 25 students of 9-11 grades , winners of the school round of this reputable contest took part in the second stage of the English language Olympiad (City level) . The venue of the event was one of the central district schools, which meant that your alma mater walls could not help you. Still, our pupils were on the ball.
The tasks were really brain-stretching and required not only linguistic competence and but a great amount of creative flow and a lot of cultural insight. The essay topic speaks for itself " All that glisters is not gold" , a famouse line from Shakespeare's play The Merchant of Venice. They say the expression may even date back to Aesop. One really needs to display great linguistic eloquence to deal with the topic brought to the foreground by a famouse fabulist and a famouse playwright."
