1 September - Knowledge Day
This year's Knowledge Day will long be remembered by both pupils and teachers of Linguistics School. Primary school pupils, high-spirited and carefree for the time being middle school students, high school students, who have grown surprisingly serious, all formed a line on the green lawn. Students and teachers of the recently established British Lyceum were also present at the opening ceremony. On that warm and bright morning everyone was enjoying the most enlivening music, students were entertained by Neznaika, one of Russian children’s most beloved fictional character, and the School Spirit. Dozens of iridescent balloons carried the youngest students’ wishes into the blue and children left the many-coloured imprints of their palms on a white canvas. The principal, teachers, students’ parents, future school-leavers all congratulated our pupils on the beginning of a new academic year, whilst a 4th form student Miriam Weinstein performed a temperamental Spanish dance, and the youngsters recited several poems they had learned by heart.
On such a special occasion Svetlana Grigoryevna Termunasova, the founder and the Dean of the Foreign Languages Department at MSU, Doctor of Philology, Professor, the initiator and Head of the Russian Association of Applied Linguistics, Head of the National Association of Teachers of the English Language, Dr. H.C. of Philology of Birmingham University and the University of New York. Svetlana Grigoryevna gave a school-wide “lesson of peace”, the main topic of which was national security and language. Students listened to her with great interest.
Thus a new academic year has started, let it be fruitful, successful, creative, merry and strewn with remarkably interesting school events!
