World Economics and Politics elective

This tailor-made course was designed with senior form pupils with profile-oriented study in mind with the aim of developing specializations in economics and law and to prepare future entrants to MSIFR as part of our co-operation agreement. The course was given the green light by MSIFR resource centre and the Faculty of Social Sciences in MIOE.

In the design of the course account has been taken regarding national curriculum standards in the following subjects: Economics (section on macroeconomics, Geography (section on Economics), History (modern and contemporary) and Social Studies.

The subject content is based on material adapted from similar existing courses (world economics and international economic relations, world politics, world politics and international relations etc.) offered by HEEs in the context of prep courses for university entry and courses offered to undergraduates.

The course is aimed at 10th and 11th Form pupils oriented towards advanced study of humanities subjects and the social sciences in particular (history, social studies, economics, civics, law etc.).

The subject of this course sheds light on process of formation, functioning and development of the two main mutually interacting elements of modern civilisations as determined by a system of world economics and international relations.

A high degree of co-operation between the course leader and pupils is provided for by using subject and issue oriented approaches to the study material. At the same time, the application of the former (subject oriented) approach concerns the role of the teacher in enlightening the content of the course and the application of the second (issue oriented) approach leads to independent cognitive activities in pupils through their actively acquiring and assimilating the educational information.

A pupil’s own achievements in the subject are determined via their direct participation in the learning process by conducting a range of events such as presentations, round table discussions and conferences etc. as well as by producing their own creative research and project work.

The course content allows for the use of textbook and supplementary material from a wide spectrum of sources including specialist academic publications, annotated publications of normative articles ofinternational and domestic law, analytical materials as well as mass media products such as press conferences, interviews and reportages.

The effectiveness of the course is significantly raised by using modern technological resources to quickly access information, prepare for and conduct assessment as well as providing a means for pupils to present their achievements in the subject. .
