Elective course
«Economics of Russia»
The Economics of Russia course is recommended as a school subject in profile-oriented schools seeking to provide more in-depth study of Economics to prepare for university entrance and is offered in our School as part of our partnership project with MSIFR and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
The course curriculum has been approved by the Resource Department of MISFR and the Social Sciences Department of the Moscow Institute of Open Education (MIOE).
Economics of Russia is presented as a school subject offered as an elective to 10th and 11th Form profile pupils and aims at broadening the content of Economics taken in the standard school timetable.
This course is based on the requirements of the federal component of the national curriculum of secondary education in Economics, Geography (Economics section) and also History and Social Studies.
The assumptions in the subject content, being a supplement to the corresponding sections of the abovementioned disciplines, are that the materials used are adapted from similar profile courses implemented in schools and higher schools.
The elective is aimed at senior form secondary school pupils who are motivated to more in-depth study of the Social Sciences and, in particular, Economics.
This course sheds light on the evolution process of the domestic administrative and economic system from the moment of its inception in the early middle ages to the present with emphasis on the recent stage of its historical development chronologically determined as the last decade of the 20th – beginning of the 21st centuries.
In its turn the methodological basis of interaction between teachers and pupils is through a combination of approaches to acquiring the material: subject (teachers presenting material) and problem-solving (independent cognitive activity of pupils). The best way to conduct this course and organize the lessons, in the author’s view, is through the lecture-seminar system adapted to the needs of secondary school pupils which allows the teacher to draw attention to developing pupil self-study methods via practical and creative forms of research based course and project work.
The course content allows for using fundamental course resources and supplementary literature from a wide circle of specialist publishers from coursebooks in the various disciplines to the works of the greatest thinkers in economics and material from periodicals.
Special attention during the course is given over to applying ICT not only to extend access to the latest economics information but to considerably ease the learning and assessment processes as well as to supplement materials thereby encouraging cognitive self-study.
